About

French for ‘staple item’ Article de Base combines Parisian construction techniques, with the laidback silhouettes of Southern California.

Founded by Chilean-Australian designer Paul Cordero, the brand directly references his international journey, having worked as an expert draper and pattern-maker in the U.K, France, and the U.S. This most notably included a decade in Paris, with roles at some of the most prestigious names in ready-to-wear and couture, including Chloe, Jacquemus, Nina Ricci and Jean Paul Gaultier.

During his travels, Cordero also honed a specific style sensibility that’s rooted in utilitarian workwear, and vintage streetwear. A look that’s especially inspired by his global community of friends - including designers, performers and artists, who each have personal uniforms born of both practicality, and subtle self-expression.

Applying European craft expertise to easy American styles, Cordero’s Article de Base designs are draped, patterned and manufactured in his current home city Los Angeles. Produced in limited runs, with an emphasis on quality and longevity, each collection speaks directly to the other, with the ultimate goal of offering a forever wardrobe that can be gradually built upon.
